Beauty and Power: Miss Michigan addresses Flint crisis at Miss America pageant.
In barely 9 seconds, Miss Michigan Emily Sioma caught the attention of the entire country after calling out her own state over the (infuriatingly still ongoing!) Flint water crisis.
“From the state with 84 percent of the United States’ fresh water but none for its residents to drink, I am Miss Michigan Emily Sioma,” she said during her introduction at the 92nd Miss America pageant.

According to an investigation, the crisis in Flint is a result of cost cutting measures by state, and criminal charges have been filed against several government officials connected to the case.
Needless to say, Sioma racked up much praise online for using her platform to call attention to a national issue.
“The new #missamerica2019 pageant did not come to play,” Cosmopolitan’s Alex Rees tweeted alongside a clip of Sioma’s intro, Nylon found.
And even more people are onboard with Miss Michigan:
I love woke Miss America.

I know!! I agree.. it’s really just so sad and a damn crime to let people go without clean drinking water. I haven’t been downstate in years, and it was already bad back then. I’m happy she’s trending and bringing this topic back into the headlines.

On top of Miss West Virginia calling Trump the most serious problem facing the U.S. Women in this country are angry and they are going to be expressing it at the polls.
