When staff at Mounfitchet Castle in Essex, United Kingdom saw nine ducklings waddling around on their own on castle grounds without their mother in sight, they couldn’t believe who decided to step in to foster them.
It was none other than the very good boy that is 10-year old Fred, the resident Labrador in the castle grounds.
“The ducklings absolutely adore him and he has now resigned himself to being a stay-at-home dad looking after the nine baby ducklings. They are getting very mischievous, even hitching a ride on his back and following him into the water for a swim in the castle moat,” the castle staff who witnessed the adorable ‘adoption’ have said in a statement.
And the Internet can’t get enough of Fred, the very good boy and contented single inter-species dad:
This is Fred. He lives in an English castle with his nine fluffy children. Says being a single father is sometimes challenging, but always worth it. 13/10 for all pic.twitter.com/5yGoqQgPnU

According to BBC, Fred’s owner expects Fred will be babysitting for a few more weeks, but at some point the ducklings will leave the castle.
Well Fred, don’t say we didn’t warn you that they grow up so fast.
